Testing Mont Blanc, the affordable sports sunglasses from Switzerland

Swiss Eyewear Group was founded in 2013, and has been selling high-quality glasses under the brand name Invu ever since. The company also makes sports sunglasses. I decided to give the Mont Blanc shades a try.

I recently tested the Aconcagua and Omu bike glasses and wrote about them in the article linked below.

Invu Mont Blanc

I’ve now also tested the Mont Blanc sports sunglasses, which boast a pliable, unbreakable frame. Swiss Eyewear Group provided me with my pair for review purposes.

The specs

  • Style: wrap-around
  • Lens width: 66 mm
  • Lens height: 41 mm
  • Nose bridge width: 18 mm
  • Temple length: 123 mm
  • Diameter (lens): 68 mm

For biking, mountaineering or chilling on the beach

The sunglasses are fine for cycling too, but given their lightweight design (25 grammes), I’d rather take them on outdoor activities such as hiking, water sports or cross-country skiing. While the glasses come included with a case and a microfibre cloth, there’s unfortunately no mount for corrective lenses.

In a nutshell

The name says it all

Swiss brand Invu makes impressive sports sunglasses, and these Mont Blanc shades are no exception. I’m particularly keen on the wrap-around style, which protects your eyes from errant grains of sand and dazzling reflections on the water. The lenses are shatterproof and scratch-resistant. Thanks to a flexible, unbreakable frame, the glasses sit comfortably on your face. Although I’d consider them good outdoor sports sunglasses, they’re less well suited to gravel- or mountain biking.

What I’m missing with the Mont Blanc – as was the case with the Aconcagua and Omu glasses – are interchangeable lenses for less sunny moments. Or alternatively, a version with photochromic lenses. With this in mind, I’ve deducted one star.

Pro

  • Decent value for money
  • Pliable frame
  • Wrap-around style
  • Shatterproof lenses
  • Lightweight

Contra

  • No interchangeable lenses for cloudy conditions
