I ordered these headphones and received them today. The description says they have Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). However, I can't find anywhere in the user manual how to switch the ANC on/off. I also can't find a smart app for the buds in the Android App Store. Do these headphones really have ANC and if so, where is this switched on or which app can be used? Thank you very much!

It was the same for me. Unfortunately, Anc is not inside.

Is it really the case that the ear buds switch on automatically when the battery is empty? This has caused the ear buds' batteries to run down a few times because they do not switch off automatically as long as there is a Bluetooth connection. Is there any way to prevent this?

Unfortunately, this cannot be prevented so easily. One possibility would be to switch off the Bluetooth from the mobile phone. But who thinks of that every time? 😅 But I haven't yet noticed the problem you describe in this form, but I'll look into it myself.
