I ordered 2 Homepods and use them logically in stereo mode. Setup is very simple - as soon as wifi is available, switch on, and Apple takes care of the rest as usual in a very user-friendly way.
Sound:
as a simple speaker for size definitely OK, but in stereo mode 2 Homepods show their true strength.
Despite not being adjustable, the sound is very balanced. It's hard to believe that 2 small speakers can produce a very good, crisp bass, while at the same time producing very clear highs. Music by Dire Straits or Rondo Veneziano sounds just as good as crisp dance floor acts like David Guetta or rock music by AC/DC. Only the mids could be a little more present, but I'm complaining at a very high level.
I compared the Homepods in the men's market with the competitors. Sonos and Amazon products can't keep up (for me), only the Bose speakers are on a par.
For those who already own Apple products, these speakers are definitely a recommendation.

I ordered two 2nd generation HomePods for the stereo experience based on various positive tests.
The HomePods sound quite good, and even better in stereo mode. However, I didn't really want to experience the total WoW effect. At times it even seemed a bit quiet.
This alone would not have been a reason for me to return it. I expected more from it, but I would have liked to keep it because of the advantages (Siri, Apple Music).
Unfortunately, setting it up didn't really work out. At first it went quickly and smoothly. First Homepod No. 1 configured, then No.2, you could use it directly as a stereo. After a while, Siri got in touch and said there was a problem with the internet connection.
Reset both HomePods again, start again, each HomePod individually, stereo set up later. After a while, the message that there was no internet connection came up again. Reset the Homepods again, and this time only set up one. Same problem. Disconnected the Homepod from the mains and tried the other one. The configuration failed a few times, but eventually it worked. Same problem: no connection to the internet after a while.
My internet is very stable: UPC Cablecom, Connect Box. No other device (iPhone 13 mini, iPad Mini, MacBook Air and iPad from work, all up to date) complains. Nevertheless: Internet reset to factory settings, HomePods as well. Tried again. Doesn't work, same problem
Internet reconfigured: first only 2.4 ghz, then only 5ghz, then both WLANS with their own SSID and password. Homepods reset: same problem: at first it works, then Siri reports "no internet".
After a few days of intensive testing, I gave up and returned them. I don't know what else it could be, but I've lost interest in it. I did some research on the internet and it definitely doesn't seem to be an isolated case.

I consider this to be the only bad purchase I have made from Apple.
