A TV set equipped with DVB-C can be operated on an upc network. Can a TV set not equipped with DVB-C be operated via this TechniBox K1 CSP using an HDMI connection?
No. The decisive factor is whether the HDMI input is HDCP-compatible. If a TV set does not have a built-in DVB-C tuner but still has an HDMI input, it is very likely that it is not HDCP-compatible. In this case, the screen remains dark. This also applies to some video monitors from the camera surveillance sector that have an HDMI input. However, if the TV set has a DVB-C tuner in it and the K1 is only used to feed an additional TV programme to the HDMI input, then the TV set will certainly have an HDCP-compatible input and will be able to play back the cable TV programmes via K1 in HD quality. The non-HDMI outputs of the K1 will work with all TV sets with video inputs (Cinch, BNC or SCART sockets), but only in SD quality. If your question refers to the interaction with an older TV (tube or one of the early flat screens), you will not be able to use the HDMI output of the K1 anyway and will have to be satisfied with the SD quality of the K1 video output. Overall, by the way, the K1 is a very pleasing device: reliable, cheap, easy to programme and operate, fast programme switching (which is anything but a matter of course with DVB-C tuners).
Hello Eugster43
Yes, this cable receiver is intended for this purpose. TV sets that are not digitally compatible (without DVB-C tuner) can be connected to this cable receiver via HDMI or Scart. The channel search and then the programme selection is then carried out via the reciever.
