Do you need a Logitech steering wheel for it to be compatible or is it just a USB connection?

According to the brand's website this is not necessary. The system requirements are for the OS :
Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7
MAC OSX 10.10
1 USB 2.0 port

The device seems to connect directly to USB and is detected. :)

Here are some more details:

"There is no need to download drivers or install additional software. The package works with Windows® 7, 8.1 and 10 and is compatible with all major agricultural simulation software as well as some games such as Euro Truck, Train Simulator and Elite Dangerous."
