Question about Philips 499P9H/00
Hello together! The following problem: I would like to connect two laptops at the same time and use them via Picture in Picture and KVM Switch. Now I have attached a laptop via USB cable. This is where it started: The cable supplied is not a Thunderbolt USB C cable. Now that I have bought a Thunderbolt USB C cable, I can connect the laptop with only this cable. Picture, audio and USB devices on the screen work. Now for the second laptop: Since there is only one USB C port, I have to connect the second laptop via HDMI. As far as I know, HDMI only transmits audio and image. Do I have to connect an extra USB upstream for this? In this case, I would rather have had 2 USB C ports than 2 HDMI ports....
You could have saved yourself the TB cable, because the monitor cannot do TB. it can only do DisplayPort via USB-C Alt Mode. However, you lose the USB3.0 upstream capability -> it can only do 60hz with USB2.0 or 30hz with UBS3.0.
The supplied USB-C - USB-C cable works perfectly for picture and USB uplink (with the limitations mentioned).
As you already said, HDMI does not support USB. So for the two device you need either a USB-C -> HDMI/DP cable + an additional USB Type-B to USB cable for the uplink.
However, I hope you have fun switching back and forth. Despite KVM, the monitor is simply not made for this and it's a real pain...
If you can somehow get rid of it at a fair price, I recommend buying the DELL 49er for your project...
