Is the HD compatible with an HP Compaq dc5800 Microtower ? (I have no further information except Intel Core2 Duo, c.a. 10 years old).

The DC5800 was available in different configurations, but as far as I know all of them had a SATA-III connector for hard drives. This WD drive would therefore be safe to install. However, remember that you will need an additional SATA cable if you want to keep the original drive and use the new one only as an extension.
