I don't know if suitable software is supplied with this hard disk.
Research these operating system solutions, which (as I understand it) address your problem exactly:
* MAC: Timemachine
* PC: File version history

I cannot give a direct answer to bundling. Under OS X (Mac), however, I have had the best experience with any external USB hard drive and the (commercial) programmes "Chronosync" and at best "Carbon Copy Cloner" (for backups).
