Platter resting in idle. I bought a 6TB version four years ago, and this summer I bought a 4TB version of the same type. The new 4TB variant switches off the disks after a certain time (which is extremely tedious in interaction with Solidworks and Mastercam), while the old 6TB continues to do its rounds. Where does this come from? Is it possible to deactivate the idle function? Both HDDs run under Win7 in two different server PCs.
Have you deactivated the option in the power settings to set hard disks to sleep mode after a predefined time? To which storage controller is the disk connected? Does this storage controller have a management application? This could also be set there.
