Dogs often have a hard time: for millennia, they were bred to guard homes, farms, and property, and suddenly these traits are no longer in demand. The dog is now expected to warmly welcome every guest – which can often seem absurd from a dog's perspective. "Untraining" this deeply rooted behavior in many breeds, possibly through punishment, has little chance of success. However, redirecting it into desired and acceptable behaviors is possible when one takes the dog and its thinking seriously and considers its needs. Drawing from her own experiences, dog trainer Inga Jung explains when and why dogs behave territorially, creating numerous "Aha moments" even for experienced dog owners.
