The climate and biodiversity crisis, the rapid pace of technological developments, armed conflicts, nuclear threats, geopolitical shifts, and societal upheavals shape our present. How is a desirable future even conceivable? What about the interdependencies, the complicated imbalances, and ambivalences between humans, nature, and artificial intelligence? What is the state of human and natural dignity? In response to these and similar questions, 14 Austrian authors engage in dialogue with partners from abroad. The result includes literary prose and essays. Sometimes the texts reference each other, while at other times they stand independently side by side. Dystopian and utopian approaches are intertwined, with much reminiscent of science fiction. The written future can provoke thought, elicit laughter, but also instill fear. What unites all the texts is their literary and artistic engagement with pressing issues. Olja Alvir communicates with Léonce W. Lupette, Anna Baar with Ales Steger, Mascha Dabic exchanges ideas with Katja Grcic, and Walter Fanta collaborates with Andy Jelcic. Olga Flor teams up with Radka Denemarková, Friederike Gösweiner with Luiza Bouharaoua. Andrea Grill works with Albana Shala, Anna Kim with Arild Vange, and Elisabeth Klar with S. Mahmoud Hosseini Zad. Christina Maria Landerl engages in dialogue with I.V. Nuss, and Tanja Maljartschuk with Laryssa Denyssenko. Carolina Schutti collaborates with Virgilia Ferrão, and Michael Stavaric with Radmila Petrovic. The conclusion is formed by Andreas Unterweger and Volha Hapeyeva.
