A recommendation from the WHO states: exclusively breastfeed for at least 6 months. However, it is often understood that weaning should occur by 6 months at the latest. Women who continue to breastfeed their children beyond this period face ignorance, suspicion, and judgment. As a result, many mothers only breastfeed their children secretly after the first year and rarely talk about it – even though many children seek comfort and closeness at their mother's breast during the second or third year of life and benefit from the nutrients in breast milk.
