Jörg Hilbert studied communication design and lives as a freelance author and illustrator in the Ruhr area. Over 1 million copies of his popular children's book musicals featuring Knight Rust (music by Felix Janosa) have been sold so far. They are also among the most beloved children's plays in their stage adaptations. Other titles include The Christmas Pig, The Snowman Child, The Pappenheimers, Karo and Blaumann, as well as the globally successful series Fritz & Fertig – Chess for Kids. Jörg Hilbert has two children and is related to the poet Joachim Ringelnatz.

Felix Janosa has been composing since he was twelve years old. Although he studied music education, he did not become a music teacher but instead became a cabaret artist, jazz pianist, producer, and author. In addition to his numerous music education publications and the Knight Rust musicals (with Jörg Hilbert), he has written for various musical ensembles and produced other blues, rock, and jazz artists. Felix Janosa has a daughter and lives in the countryside near Aachen.
