TP Link says it'll support Matter (as will Hue if I'm not completely mistaken), but remains vague on whether existing products will support that too.

No, you need to install a seperate App „TP-Link TAPO“ to add and control them. But the App works very good in my opinion and I like these LEDs more than these from Philipps.

According to our information, TP-Link Tapo is not compatible with Philips HUE.
