I am confused. I bought this product for years knowing that it did not contain silicone or anything similar. However, the new packaging now reveals a silicone coating. This is supposed to be compostable because it is "natural silicone" according to the reply from user lenettoyeur. But the fact is that there is no such thing as natural silicone. (Source: Wikipedia) Can someone from Galaxus enlighten me ... 1. ...whether the product was already silicone-coated before? 2. .... why it should be possible to compost products containing silicone? 3. ...whether there are actual alternatives WITHOUT SILICONE?

It is possible that the baking paper was previously silicone-coated, but this was not explicitly stated on the packaging. Silicone is generally not biodegradable as it is a synthetic polymer. However, there are certain types of silicone that are advertised as 'compostable' as they can be broken down under industrial composting conditions. If You Care baking paper is chlorine-free and made from unbleached, FSC-certified paper. As a silicone-free alternative, we recommend Compostella 1 for 4 paper, which we unfortunately do not carry in our range.
