Method: Ultrasound waves are introduced into the test object via a sensor. The waves penetrate the test object, are reflected at the opposite surface, and are then received again by the sensor. The resulting measurement is compared with the material thickness traditionally measured with calipers. Due to the output measurement value, false cores, such as those made of tungsten or lead, can be easily detected, as they exhibit different ultrasound behavior compared to pure gold.
