This is a venturi tube, where air/oxygen is supplied to the gas, otherwise it will not burn. There should be a stainless steel grille over the opening, this prevents insects/spiders from getting in and should always be clean. Kind regards.....

In my opinion, it should also be curved, you can see this somewhere in the instructions. But at first I didn't think that was right either. Above all, it is also strange that the gas goes directly through the valve, although it is open everywhere and the gas could actually escape..... ?!? I find that somehow special.
