Product details
In this tinkerer workshop, a combustion engine was initially developed that could run on kerosene instead of gas. With the help of interested investors, production of the two-stroke "System Benz" began in 1881. By 1885, the first three-wheeled motor vehicle powered by a four-stroke combustion engine was created. On January 29, 1886, the vehicle with gas engine operation was patented by the imperial patent office under number 37435. Carl Benz in Mannheim, Gottlieb Daimler, and Wilhelm Maybach in Cannstatt implemented their ideas on the drawing board. Prototypes were developed in the workshops, which were constantly tested and improved. Carl Benz paid special attention to the ignition of his single-cylinder engine. The Benz spark plugs from 1886 already met the standards that would remain valid until the 1930s in terms of design and materials. From 1886 to 1894, about 25 examples of an improved version of the patent motor vehicle were sold at a price of 3,000 marks. Technical specifications: Engine: four-stroke single-cylinder, vapor cooling, inlet slide valve, standing exhaust valve, Benz surface carburetor, lubrication by drip oil, buzz ignition. Bore x stroke: 91.4 x 150.0 mm. Displacement: 984 cm3. Power: 0.66 kW (0.9 hp) at 400/min. Power transmission: via leather belt, stepped pulley, differential, and chain. Length/Width/Height: 2,600/1,450/1,600 mm. Curb weight: 290 kg. Top speed: 15 km/h. With this Busch model, the history of the automobile also begins at a scale of 1:87. This intricate miniature version in highly detailed execution showcases the first mechanical means of transportation with noteworthy features. The model featuring Bertha Benz commemorates the journey of Carl's wife, who drove from Mannheim to Pforzheim in 1888 without her husband's knowledge.
