Product details
The series 70.0 was a tank locomotive designed for light passenger trains. It was commissioned by the Royal Bavarian State Railways as the class Pt 2/3. Between 1909 and 1916, a total of 97 units were built by Krauss in Munich. To optimize traffic on local railways, a door was installed at the rear, allowing the fireman to enter the train and take on the duties of the conductor. Later, some of the doors were removed to accommodate a larger coal bunker. A distinctive feature of this locomotive was the unusually large distance of 4,000 mm between the driving and trailing axles. This resulted in a lightweight design that was economical yet practical, proving to be highly effective. After World War II, the DB took over 89 of these locomotives, which could reach speeds of up to 65 km/h, and operated them on secondary lines in southern Germany until the 1960s. The last locomotive was retired in 1963.
