The BR 215 was a type of diesel locomotive used by the DB and later by Deutsche Bahn AG for medium-heavy passenger and freight train service. The series was procured as a variant of the V 160 family of vehicles and was equipped with steam heating generators. The main reason for the construction of the BR 215 was that the BR 218 had not yet reached production readiness.
