These tortoises, as their name suggests, live only on land. Their skin and legs resemble those of elephants. Most have a high, dome-shaped shell into which they retreat for protection. Their main food source is plants. They can reach a length of about 1.2 meters and a weight of 250 kg, and they are native to the Galapagos Islands.
