For over six decades, the Bundeswehr has relied on the Mercedes-Benz Unimog. The Bundeswehr's fleet is closely associated with the all-terrain vehicles that have achieved legendary fame as Universal Motor Devices (Unimog). Following this tradition, the first 200 Unimogs of the U 5023 type were delivered to the troops in May 2017. Procured by BwFuhrparkService GmbH, the U 5023 meets the current requirements of the Bundeswehr. It is powered by an extremely torque-strong four-cylinder Euro VI engine of type OM 934 with a displacement of 5.132 liters, an output of 170 kW (231 hp), and a torque of 900 Nm. There are eight forward and six reverse gears available, with an optional off-road gear group for operations in the speed range between 2.5 and 35 km/h. The maximum total weight of the U 5023 is 15 tons.
