Delivery dates: fewer colours, clear promises

Galaxus and Digitec have changed how product availability is displayed on their websites. Eight icons will make things clearer.

Galaxus and Digitec have updated the way they display product availability. The green tick now indicates that a product purchased before the order deadline will be delivered no later than the second business day following the order date.

Eighty per cent of orders shipped directly from Galaxus’s own warehouse are delivered the next business day after the order is placed. If an order is expected to take two days, this is noted next to the green tick. «We put a lot of time, money and effort into making reliable next-day deliveries possible,» says Florian Teuteberg, CEO of Digitec Galaxus. «However, because we’re growing so fast, we’re not yet where we want to be.»

In addition to the green tick, new definitions for the following availability icons now apply:

One-week moving average

For a particular symbol to be displayed, at least 90 per cent of orders need to arrive within the specified timeframe. If that isn’t the case, the product is bumped down to the next availability level. In addition, suppliers are only allowed to cancel a maximum of five orders in every thousand (0.5 per cent). If they go over this limit, they lose the green tick.

So incidents such as a brief power outage, a broken conveyor belt or a sudden surge in demand don’t immediately impact our promised delivery times. «However, if the situation worsens to the point of creating a capacity bottleneck, the green tick is removed straight away,» says Nathan Munzinger, who, as Head of Product, is responsible for the changes.

Mouseovers replaced with clearly displayed information

For heavy items such as sofas or washing machines, delivery times are now clearly displayed on the relevant product page. Previously, this information was only visible when you moved the cursor over the availability indicator.
