My favourite chub-rub stick isn’t one at all
Dove’s Whole Body Deo doesn’t just give you a delicate scent – it also protects against sore thighs.
Summer plus shorts plus a female body is a really bad combo.
Ah, that feeling of your thighs rubbing each other raw, fuelled by sweat... Chub-rub sticks promise relief. Apply them to any areas prone to chafing, and they’re supposed to allow your skin glide smoothly as you move. In theory. Unfortunately, most products are either too greasy or too heavily perfumed for my taste.
Then I discovered Dove’s Whole Body Deo. It’s become my holy-grail chub-rub stick – even though it’s technically not a chub-rub stick at all.
Deodorant stick vs. chafing
Initially, I applied the deodorant to my inner thighs so I’d sweat less and my shorts would stay fresh for longer. I was surprised when I realised I didn’t have chafing anymore. The product leaves a delicate, silky film that lets the skin glide smoothly against itself.
Maybe I should have read the instructions for use more carefully. According to the manufacturer, Unilever, the formula is vegan, aluminium-free, dermatologically and gynaecologically tested, which makes it suitable for sensitive skin. The stick is also supposed to prevent chafing and support skin regeneration.
Put that at the top, won’t you, Unilever!

The stick comes in two delicate, understated scents: lavender-camomile and raspberry-rose. I have the lavender version, which has been around since last summer. Raspberry-rose is new.
Dove, why don’t you just market the thing as a chub-rub stick? You’ve got my support!
