Oppo Find X9 and Honor Magic8: Large batteries that are getting smaller in Europe

Two Chinese manufacturers, Oppo and Honor, have unveiled their next top smartphones. In Europe, we will have to wait a little longer for the Find X9 and Magic8 - and the respective Pro versions.

While Honor relies on a large battery and lots of AI for the Magic8, Oppo is also offering a large battery and a clip-on lens for a longer focal length for the Find X9. Both manufacturers want to launch their smartphones outside of China this year.

Honor Magic8 and Magic8 Pro: large batteries and even more AI

As with previous devices, Honor makes use of silicon-carbon batteries. Put simply, these have a higher capacity with the same volume. The Honor Magic8 Pro has 7200 mAh and is no thicker than other smartphones. The Magic8 has 7000 mAh. However, this only applies in China. The manufacturer has already announced that the global versions will have a capacity of 6270 mAh. The reason for this is international regulations for the shipping of batteries.

This is also accompanied by a difference in charging speed. In China, smartphones accept up to 120 watts, outside of China only 100 watts. Wireless charging, on the other hand, always works with up to 80 watts if you use the right charger from Honor.

The second important point that Honor is focussing on is AI. The smartphones have an extra button to start the AI - with an alternative function as a shutter release for the camera. In addition to Gemini and all previous AI functions, there is also an AI memory for photos and documents. Similar to Nothing's Essential Space, the AI should recognise what can be seen in the images and read in the documents and search for suitable information or files on request.

The cameras remain virtually unchanged on paper. The ultra-wide-angle camera still has a resolution of 50 megapixels and the telephoto camera with 3.7x zoom has 200 megapixels. The only changes to be expected here are in the software. For the 50-megapixel main camera, however, Honor is replacing the previous variable aperture with a fixed f/1.6 aperture.

Both variants of the Magic8 have the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and the global version has twelve gigabytes of RAM and 512 gigabytes of storage space. With its 6.71-inch OLED display, the Magic8 Pro is slightly larger than the Magic8 with 6.58 inches.

The smartphones run Android 16 out of the box. Honor provides the operating system with its MagicOS 10 user interface, whose new «translucent visual design» is suspiciously reminiscent of Liquid Glass, which Apple introduced with iOS 26.

The Honor Magic8 and Magic8 Pro will also be available outside of China later this year.

Oppo Find X9 Pro: Large batteries and a clip-on lens

Oppo also relies on large silicon-carbon batteries for the Find X9 and Find X9 Pro. They have capacities of 7025 and 7500 mAh. However, the manufacturer has not yet provided any information on the battery capacity outside of China. At 6.78 inches, the Pro model is also larger than the standard version - which comes with a 6.59-inch touchscreen.

As a special feature, Oppo offers a clip-on lens for the Find X9 Pro. This is quickly and easily attached to a case for the smartphone and extends the focal length by a factor of 10 in the standard setting.

Unlike its sister brand OnePlus, Oppo still has a partnership with the camera manufacturer Hasselblad, which is noticeable in some camera functions. The Find X9 Pro has a main camera and an ultra-wide-angle camera, each with a resolution of 50 megapixels. The 200-megapixel telephoto camera offers three times the focal length of the main camera.

There is an additional button on the edge of the smartphone that acts as the camera shutter release. It also starts the AI on the smartphone. Gemini and various AI helpers are on board. Android 16 with ColorOS 16 runs on the devices ex works. Oppo uses the Dimensity 9500 from Mediatek as the chipset for both Find X9 models.

The global version of the Find X9 and Find X9 Pro will be unveiled on 28 October 2025.
