The telephoto lens has a significantly longer focal length than a standard lens. This narrows the field of view, making photographed objects appear closer and larger than they actually are from your camera's position. This type of lens is particularly well-suited for capturing distant subjects in a way that fills the frame. Moreover, subjects photographed with a telephoto lens can be easily isolated due to the shallow depth of field – highlight the desired subject of your image by allowing the background to fade into blur.

This lens can only be focused manually. Although manual focusing takes longer and is more challenging than working with autofocus, it offers several advantages: it allows you to precisely focus on the point you want, enabling shots that align exactly with your vision.
