Through tamping, the coffee grounds in the filter are compacted to create a firm and even coffee puck with a smooth and level surface. Proper tamping prevents channeling and ensures uniform extraction of all the coffee grounds, allowing all the aromatic compounds to be dissolved from the coffee.

This tamper is spring-loaded. The height of the tamper can be adjusted by turning the middle section. It is recommended to adjust the height of the tamper according to the amount of coffee grounds to achieve the smoothest surface possible. The outer ring, which rests flat on the portafilter, ensures that the tamper is always pressed straight down. Simply place the tamper on top and press down; the spring slowly pulls the base back up.

This tamper fits perfectly on 58 mm portafilters. Through repeated testing, MHW 3Bomber has determined that 58.35 mm is the perfect size for leveling tools and tampers. These fit precisely into 58 mm portafilters and reduce coffee ground waste.

This tamper features a flat and compact design, making it very handy. Additionally, the base is equipped with concentric grooves, allowing more coffee grounds to come into contact with the water, leading to better extraction.

The entire tamper is made from high-quality materials. The handle with walnut cap and the middle section are made from an aluminum alloy, while the base and spring are made of stainless steel. The handle is coated with a non-slip surface to ensure a better grip. The entire tamper is disassemblable, making it easy to clean.
