In the test, simple and better-equipped standard zooms competed against fixed focal lengths. Fixed focal lengths cannot zoom, but they are inexpensive and fast. One of the three lens types almost always conjured up the best pictures. In the test: 21 lenses from 7 brands, including 7 inexpensive and 7 expensive standard zooms as well as 7 portrait fixed focal lengths.
