Best of Beauty: my May favourites

There are over 80,000 beauty products and counting on the Galaxus website. Not exactly slim pickings. So, each month, I wade into this pool of new arrivals and established classics and share my favourites with you.

Moisturiser by CeraVe

I own more body lotions, body butters and creams than I do limbs. The product I reach for after showering depends on several factors. How dry is my skin? What do I want to smell like? Can I afford to be stuck to a chair for the next couple of hours? Or does my skin need to absorb the stuff quickly?

If I were only allowed to use one product from now on, my choice at the moment would be CeraVe’s. fragrance-free moisturiser. This substantial body cream with ceramides and hyaluronic acid is suitable for adults and children alike, and doesn’t leave an oily film on the skin. The formula absorbs quickly and keeps my skin reliably smooth until my next shower. I see it as a great all-rounder for people who struggle with dry skin, but don’t want to be constantly greased up from head to toe with nourishing oils. Another plus point is that the fragrance-free formula makes way for my body sprays and perfumes to really stand out.

Maybelline lip liner

Before putting on lipstick, I always grab a lip liner first. When using it, I don’t just outline my lips – in part, I actually shape them to look however I want them to. That essentially means that I make them look fuller than they are – «overlining» being the operative word. I manage this pretty effortlessly with these two favourites: Charlotte Tilbury’s «Lip Cheat Re-Shape & Re-Size Lip Liner» in «Iconic Nude», which isn’t yet available in stores in Switzerland, and Maybelline’s «Color Sensational Shaping Lip Liner» in «10 Nude Whisper». The earthy shade strikes a balance between cool and warm undertones, meaning it can be paired with a range of different lipsticks.

Mac eyeshadow

I rarely go for single shadows – that is, a single colour in an individual container. I find palettes more practical. For «Naked Lunch» by Mac, however, I’m willing to make an exception. The silky champagne shade with a frosty finish makes the inner corners of my eyes pop and gives me a wide-eyed yet natural look. That’s down to the fact that the subtle shimmer doesn’t contain any visible glitter particles. Depending on your skin tone, this eyeshadow would definitely work well as a highlighter on your cheek bones.
