How do you clean the Philips filter mat for humidifiers? According to the instructions, weekly with water only. According to Philips customer service: Dissolve 24g of citric acid powder in 4 litres of water and bathe the filter in it and then rinse it out again; and then - importantly - let the filter mat dry completely and only then put it back into operation. -- Nevertheless, after a few weeks the filter starts to smell unpleasant and has to be replaced. It's annoying to have to spend CHF 20 per month. -- That's why my question: How do you do it?

There is a difference: one is the regular cleaning of the filter and the other is when it is taken out of operation (e.g. over the summer). The filter mat only needs to be dried when it is taken out of service. I clean the unit almost daily. When I refill the water, I wash the unit and also the filter with water. Once a week, I put it in a citric acid-water bath for an hour (I use citric acid-based lime cleaner). It helps me and the filter doesn't start to stink.
