Hello together
Hello everyone! I'm Alexie. I hang around here a lot because between renovating my old dresser and my (admittedly sometimes failed) attempts to grow old tomato varieties on my balcony, I always have either soil or paint on my hands. Say, I've noticed that we talk a lot about big landscape projects or garden smart homes, but we often forget one crucial thing for the longevity of our tools: the passivation of steel. We can all agree that rusting pruning shears are a pain in the arse. Rather than just oiling, I've tried a vinegar bath followed by a bicarbonate of soda rinse to stabilise the metal. It's small garage chemistry, but it makes all the difference to the life of the material. Do any of you actually use camellia oil on your blades? It's an old technique used by Japanese carpenters; it doesn't stick and provides excellent protection against oxidation, much better than the classic commercial sprays, which only end up attracting dust and sticking the mechanisms together.
